From the Engstlen bus stop, follow the lakeside path before climbing alongside the chairlift line to Jochpass (about 1 hr 15 min). A signpost at Jochpass directs hikers onto the white-red-white path, reaching the via ferrata's start within a minute.

The route opens with a steep-looking but straightforward 20 m section, followed by an unclipped path stretch near the Red Nollen ridge (2310 m) leading to the next cabled section at the Schafberg (2522 m). Beyond this, a scree traverse leads to the route's dramatic central pillar, where iron rungs, stakes, and continuous cable protection allow exposed but enjoyable climbing above steep drops. After a short rest atop the pillar, the path descends slightly across a broad, rubble-strewn ridge before climbing the final summit section, aided by cables over two short rock steps, to reach the Graustock summit (2662 m).

From the summit, retrace the upper via ferrata to a marked junction on the ridge, then follow white-blue-white markings down scree into the basin below Graustock. Keep left at old markings, descending through an unsecured but manageable rock step (grade I) into the Schaftal, crossing its undulating terrain to meet the Engstlenalp path near P. 2322. From here, descend directly to Engstlenalp or continue toward Jochpass.
