The Fürenwand Via Ferrata (K4-5) is a demanding, extensively secured route up a steep limestone wall above Engelberg, prized for its dramatic exposure and a spectacular 19-metre free-hanging iron rope ladder near the top. Though heavily equipped with iron rungs and cables limiting rock contact, the sustained airy passages test nerve and stamina as much as climbing skill. The route rewards climbers with sweeping views from the Schlossberg to the Hutstock, taking in the Spannort and Titlis peaks, before finishing with a walk to Fürenalp.

From the valley station of the Fürenalpbahn, follow the main road through a few bends until a signpost directs you left onto the via ferrata path. Continue on the white-blue-white marked trail up to the base of the Fürenhochflue where the route begins.
Steel cables lead right to a prominent corner, after which the route climbs directly upward using T-shaped iron rungs and staples. Sustained exposure leads to the wooded Jägerband terrace, offering a rare resting bench, before the route steepens again above the greenery. Iron rungs carry you into increasingly vertical, airy terrain with exposed traverses over compact limestone, opening onto grand views of the inner Engelberg valley. The route culminates in an almost 20-metre free-hanging rope ladder, followed by easier climbing and a walking trail down to Fürenalp (about 1840 m).
From the top of the via ferrata, walk uphill to reach the upper station of the Fürenalpbahn cableway, or alternatively turn left beneath the cableway line and descend on foot.
