Section 1 of the Via Farinetta is the moderate opening leg of a three-part sport via ferrata through the Gorges de la Salentse, starting near the memorial plaque to forger Joseph-Samuel Farinet. It climbs the gorge's left wall on cable bridges and rock steps to the Bisse à Barman, offering a manageable warm-up before the harder sections above. Rated K3+, it includes two suspended crossings and a few short, sustained crux moves.

From the bus stop at the bridge between Saillon and Leytron, cross the Salentse stream and follow the track up its right bank into the Salentse Gorge. Cross back over on a wooden bridge near the remains of the old baths, where the Farinet memorial plaque and information board mark the true start (around 540 m).
Enter the gorge on earthy forest paths over loose rock to a 20 m three-cable bridge, crossing to the opposite wall where the ferrata proper begins. Climb steeply up the true left wall high above the roaring Salentse, cross a second short three-cable bridge over a deep cleft, then ascend beside a small waterfall—the overflow of the Bisse à Barman—to reach a water pipe, a fence, and the vineyard edge at about 740 m.
From the vineyard at roughly 740 m you can either descend easily toward Saillon or continue up to the Passerelle à Farinet suspension bridge. From the bridge, three onward options lead through vineyards to Saillon, to the hamlet of Les Places with its bus stop, or down to Montagnon.
